Will it go, won't it go

Conflicting claims about 'Kambakkht Ishq' going to Cannes

As we reported on May 11, producer Sajid Nadiadwala has said that because of the ongoing producers and distributors vs multiplexes conflict, he’s won’t be taking his Akshay-Kareena starrer “Kambakkht Ishq” to the Cannes Film Festival (May 13-24, 2009) (Kambakkht Ishq team not going to Cannes).

Meanwhile, we have received a press release from Eros International, the London listed producer and distributor of Bollywood films, claiming that it will be announcing three exciting, international film projects at Cannes Film Festival, 2009 – “Kambakkht Ishq”, “Love Aaj Kal” and “Aladin”

Commenting on Eros International’s showcases at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Sunil Lulla, Executive Director and President – India, says: “With the multi-faceted global fan base of Indian cinema standing at 3.6 billion, we want to be at the forefront of meeting the ever-increasing demands of audiences by pioneering innovative film content... It has been our objective to increase the level of expectancy for the films of our genre year after year, 2009 being of no exception as with great pride we introduce three extraordinary film projects at Cannes.”

    Confused? We surely are.

One party which is not confused at all is the “Kites” team. Producer Rakesh Roshan, director Anurag Basu and film’s cast members Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori will be in Cannes.

Producer Rakesh Roshan will be screening his latest film only for potential buyers from the West. He will also screen a special teaser of the film as well.

May 29 onwards, flims to releases at single screens

The United Producer and Distributor Forum (UPDF) have finally decided that they won't wait for the multiplexes to meet them mid-way on the revenue-sharing issue. The UPDF has now released a series of notifications through a trade magazine in the past week telling the producers that the new movies will be all set to release as early as this month-end.

A trade source reveals, "The UPDF and multiplexes have been at loggerheads for a while now. Last week, it had seemed that the deadlock between the two parties would be called off. But after both parties couldn't get to an agreement on the profit-sharing issue, the meeting was called off abruptly. After the meet, the producers had an informal get-together and decided that they would be releasing films May 29 onwards."

The source further adds, "All the films will be released in single screens and the promotions of the film which had come to a standstill will start once again soon. Another major thing the producers have decided is that there will be only solo releases and every film will have a two-week breathing time and no new film can release two weeks after a film has released. This will allow all the films to grow on the audiences and will showcase the unity of the producers."

The first film, which will release after the suspension is Vashu Bhagnani's Kal Kissne Dekha and from then on, films like New York, Hadippa, Shortkut, Luck, Jashn, Love Aaj Kal, Kambakkht Ishq, Kaminey, Agyaat and Main Aur Mrs Khanna and finally, Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani will make their way to the single screens till the UPDF doesn't reach an agreement with multiplexes.

Women are good for only one thing, says Akshay

Not in real life though, but he does play the role of a chauvinist in his upcoming film, Kambakkht Ishq.

One of his dialogues in the film goes: “Women are good for only one thing.” Having been in a controversy before, Khiladi Kumar doesn’t want to be remembered as controversy’s child. He says that although he would never say something like this in real life, his role in the film is that of a male chauvinist, who thinks that women are objects of a man’s desires.

We sure hope Akki doesn’t get into any kind of trouble for this again.

Akshay, Kareena to walk red carpet with Stallone

Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor, the lead pair of "Kambakkht Ishq", are all set to walk the red carpet with Sylvester Stallone at the Cannes Film Festival starting on May 13.

The Hollywood action star makes a guest appearance in the actioner.

Stallone has been making inquiries about the release of the film. When informed of producer Sajid Nadiadwala's Cannes plan, he agreed as he is said to be extremely fond of both Akshay and Kareena.

"Is he? That's flattering. When in my early years I was working in Bangkok, I had three posters in my room - that of Sridevi, Bruce Lee and Sylvester Stallone," Akshay chuckled, talking to IANS on phone from Singapore.

Kareena, who is in New York right now, said: "It would be lovely to walk the red carpet with Sylvester Stallone. How many of our actors would get that privilege?"

Brandon Routh and Denise Richards also make guest appearances in the movie, which is expected to hit the screens soon.

Kareena-Britney connect

Wondering what’s the connection between Kareena Kapoor and pop star Britney Spears?

Apparently certain scenes of Kareena’s upcoming movie “Kambakkht Ishq” (pictured above) have been shot at a hotel that was the secret meeting place of singer-actor Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears when they were dating.

The scenes have been shot at Hotel The Standard, which is owned by Justin in Los Angles. Justin and Britney used to meet up at that hotel frequently to escape the eyes of the media. There are photos of Britney in a bikini, trying to woo Justin near the poolside.

Kareena too will be sporting a swim suit and has a dance number with Akshay Kumar at the same poolside in “Kambakkht Ishq”.

Apparently this will be the last time we will see Kareena in sexy, revealing clothes. She has respected Saif’s advice and will not show any more skin on screen.

'Akshay & Kareena are the best dressed in Bollywood'

Dressing up Hollywood stars Sylvester Stallone and Brandon Routh was the most fabulous experience of her career and she is floored by their humility, says Indian celebrity designer Shabina Khan.

"It was fabulous designing for Sylvester Stallone and Brandon Routh (of 'Superman' fame). It was my finest experience. They are professionals and did whatever I asked them to do. Apart from designing for them, what I learnt from them was how to be humble. Both of them are extremely down to earth," Khan told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

Stallone and Routh are making special appearances in producer Sajid Nadiadwala's "Kambhakkt Ishq", a film about an Indian stuntman who takes Hollywood by storm but cannot find true love.

"As both of them were playing themselves in the film, what I had kept in my mind while designing for them was how people dress up in Hollywood. Since most were action sequences, I gave them more of cargos, hoodies (T-shirts with hoods) and tight T-shirts," she said.

Directed by debutant Sabbir Khan, the film has Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles. Akshay plays Routh's body double in the actioner.

Shabina Khan also designed Akshay's clothes and said the filmmaker didn't want anything "conventional" for him.

"The director wanted a macho look for Akshay but not the 'ganjis' and tight T-shirts. So I created a new trendy look for him. I gave him tight cargos, waistcoats, boots and scarves," she explained.

Starting in 1988, Khan has worked as a designer for more than 30 films, including "Hum Aapke Hain Koun?", "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam", "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" and "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham".

"I started designing for Salman Khan initially. Both of us were in the same college. I designed for him for 13 years," said Khan who has also dressed stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Madhuri Dixit.

She considers Akshay and Kareena the best dressed Bollywood celebrities.

"Anything and everything looks good on Akshay. He has a perfect body and a perfect face. He can carry anything off. Kareena is very versatile. Whether it's Indian or Western she can carry both with elan and look stunning," she said.

Khan's forthcoming projects are Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Chenab Gandhi", Vipul Shah's "Action Replay", Sajid Nadiadwala's "Housefull" and Priyadarshan's "De Dhana Dhan" among which two are period films.

"'Chenab Gandhi' is a period film. Since 'Action Replay' starring Akshay and Aishwarya (Rai) is set in the 1970s, I consider that a period film as well," she said.

"It is extremely difficult to design for a period film. You have to be accurate with your homework because if you miss anything, you'll completely mess up. Therefore, at the pre-production level, a lot has to be done," she said.
