Preity’s surprised by the ‘fatafat’ generation

Preity Zinta is one fashionista who sets fashion trends and surely knows how to carry herself in whatever she wears. Who wouldn’t want to wear stuff straight out of Preity’s wardrobe, especially when she owns the best of shoes and dresses?
Preity’s nieces are no different and just love to get into her shoes and outfits whenever possible.

However the actress keeps her stuff away from them as she feels they don’t need them! “Preity gives away a lot of her stuff to her friends and the needy people but never to her nieces as she thinks they all are studying and will get spoiled if they wear such big brands from such a young age,” revealed Preity’s friend.
The actress who owns a huge collection of branded dresses and shoes said, “This new generation surprises me. They want it all and they want it fast!”

Preity Zinta got Italy in Mumbai for Italian watch brand ad

Preity Zinta got Italy in Mumbai recently. The actress shot the ad with Neil Nitin for an Italian watch brand. Since the actress had to leave for the IPL, she could not travel to the country and so Italy was created in Kamala Mills Studio in Mumbai.

A source reveals, "Being an Italian brand, The owners wanted the ad to be shot in Italy. But Preity had to fly to South Africa for IPL. They didn't want to postpone the ad till the IPL ended and hence decided to recreate Italy in a studio in Mumbai. They sent staff from here to Italy for recce and finally recreated the set in India."

The source continues, "They also wanted to get an entire set of the Italy Gondola, but time didn't permit. The commercial was shot in exactly two days. A few Italians were flown in for that authentic feel."

GM (Marketing) Ms Shardah Uniyal confirms, "We wanted to shoot in Italy and our team had also gone to Italy but Preity had to leave for IPL and we did not want to postpone the launch, so we recreated the set in India."

Bollywood Stars who gave Voting Day a miss

Thursday (30^th April) saw quite a few Bollywood bigwigs take out time from their busy schedule to cast their vote for the Elections. The ballot centres in Bandra, Juhu and Andheri areas of Mumbai saw stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, the Bachchan parivaar, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, John Abraham, Vidya Balan, Farhan Akhtar etc. troop in to cast their vote. However, there were quite a few B-town celebs, who in spite of being pretty active in asking people to vote decided to give the V-Day (Voting Day) a miss themselves. Kareena Kapoor

Kareena was part of the special video created by Karan Johar and Tarun Mansukhani encouraging citizens to go and vote. However, when the V-day came, Bebo was nowhere in the picture. Apparently, Kareena is shooting for Karan Johar's production along with Saif Ali Khan and Vivek Oberoi in the US of A and hence couldn't make it. Well, that certainly doesn't count as an excuse cos if Aamir and Shah Rukh could fly down from US and South Africa respectively for casting their Vote, Kareena surely could have. This is one Tashan of Bebo which failed to impress us one bit.

Shahid Kapoor

Kareena's once-upon-a- time 'good friend' Shahid Kapoor also didn't make it to cast his Vote and this despite him being in town. We really don't know the reason why but considering Shahid's 'good friend' Priyanka Chopra was also missing, we cant help but wonder if they were upto something Chup Chup Ke.

Priyanka Chopra was full of emotions encouraging people to go and vote in the special video created by Karan Johar and Tarun Mansukhani. However, when the V-Day came, the actress was conspicuous by her absence. PC…we all are keen to know more on What's your Reason rather than What's Your Raashee?

Salman Khan

Sallu was here, there and everywhere during the pre-election campaigning; hence it was indeed extremely surprising that the actor after encouraging people to go and Vote decided to give V-day a miss himself. The actor apparently was busy shooting in London for his film Veer at a time when he was most 'Wanted' in Mumbai to cast his vote.

Imran Khan

It was Imran Khan who came up with the idea of making a special video asking people to vote. Imran along with Karan Johar and Tarun Mansukhani gathered some of B-town's biggest stars for this initiative but when it was his time to Vote, Imran himself couldn't get his finger inked. The Reason: Imran was not eligible as he is an American citizen. Poor Imran indeed couldn't practice what he preached so hard.

Preity Zinta & Shilpa Shetty

Bollywood beauties Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty also didn't make it to cast their vote. They were busy cheering their respective teams 'Kings XI Punjab' and 'Rajasthan Royals' at the on-going IPL matches in South Africa. Looks like they didn't realize that the opportunity to vote comes only once in 5 years unlike the IPL which is an annual event

Deepika Padukone and Asin

The South Indian babes Deepika Padukone and Asin couldn't vote in Mumbai as Deepika is originally from Bangalore while Asin is from Kerala. Hope these two beauties at least have voted in their respective home town.

Akshay Kumar

Akki was among the other B-town celebs who gave Voting a miss. The star was busy shooting for Priyadarshan's film De Dhana Dhan in Singapore. Akki when you can travel from Chandni Chowk to China in 3 hours you surely could have come down from Singapore to Mumbai and exercised your right to vote as a responsible citizen.

Ajay Devgan and Kajol

Probably the biggest shocker comes in the form of Ajay Devgan and Kajol who were busy holidaying in Goa and didn't find it necessary to come down and cast their vote. Ajay what's the point in doing a film on Rajniti when you can't even come and vote for the leaders in whose hands lies the future of our country?

Did Preity Zinta upset some fans in SA

Our dimpled darlin’ rarely upsets her fans (though sometimes she does get into a brawl with mediafellas), and owing to her eternal bubbly image on screen, she has a huge kiddie fan following too.

So ZOOM was really surprised when recently a fan wrote to us ranting about her ‘once favourite’ star – PZ. Apparently, Preity Zinta was doing a promotional event for the media with her team on the beaches of South Africa; and was so heavily into doing the drill that she was inadvertently brusque with a female fan. The girl fan simply requested her to pose for a picture and, “she bluntly refused,” said the disappointed fan.

She also added in an email to us, “Preity, in her enthusiasm may have forgotten that the time on the beach was for crowd interaction with the players and for giving youngsters an opportunity to mingle with the sporting stars. So I was hurt when I was ignored.” Okay gal, we understand your grouse, but honestly, PZ is hardly like that. And stars do get busy and involved. Also, when it comes to work, everything else is secondary for Ms Zinta. And being a glam-gal in the sporting biz is no mean task.

C’mon gal, be a sport, next time around we promise ya that PZ will pose for pics first, and then go back to the field. We at ZOOM will ensure that and capture it on camera too. And we can see Preity flashing those ‘dees’ already!

Preity and Ash say no to TV show

Simon Cowell’s NBC show “America’s Got Talent” is finally making its way to India but has yet not found an appropriate host.

The channel launching it in India wants a glamorous face to host this show.

Preity was supposed to do the show and both the parties had almost worked out the agreement but as she was to get busy with IPL, Preity did not take up the project.

Later, Aishwarya was approached with the same project and was offered five crore rupees but she too refused stating date problems.

We wonder whether it is really the lack of time or these ladies are just scared to host a talent show on TV.

Preity Zinta who’s in South Africa with her cricket team is cool as a cucumber most of the time.

But when people whom she barely even knows get familiar with her, she finds it hard to take. Though she’s most charming, sweet and often genteel with fans, Zinta likes to keep a wee bit of distance. She tells us, “I am fine with people posing with me for pictures, but what I don’t like is when some put their hand around my waist or shoulders! It's official: Preity and Ness split!

Priety Zinta has finally put an end to all speculation about the status of her relationship with Ness Wadia, the Bombay Dyeing scion: The two are just working partners and share a cordial relationship as co-owners of the Kings XI Punjab cricket team.

However, just last week Preity had denied reports of a break up with Ness.

At that time it had been widely reported that her four-year-old relationship with Ness was off and that she had moved on to New York-based hotelier Vikram Chatwal. In a subsequent interview, Preity rubbished the reports.

But it seems she could not deny the truth for too long.

Ness’ absence by Preity side at the ongoing IPL in South Africa has been too glaring to go unnoticed, though Ness is there at the tournament. He has also not been with her all the public events she has attended recently.

As the whispers got louder, Preity felt it was important to clear the air especially in order to avoid any negative impact they could have on her team.

Priety is said to have sent out an email to everyone associated with Kings XI Punjab stating that she and Ness currently just have a professional relationship.

Is it a break-up or the two are just taking a break to analyse their relations?

May be the straight talking Preity will clarify this soon too.

Sallu takes on SRK at IPL

The Khan war starts again as Salman agrees to cheer for Priety's team in South Africa.






The Salman v/s Shah Rukh battle resumes. This time however the setting is not Mumbai, but South Africa where the IPL matches are being played. Sources reveal that Preity has approached Sallu to cheer for her team Kings XI Punjab and the actor has agreed.

However, what's interesting is that Preity has asked Salman to be there when her team battles out Shah Rukh's Kolkatta Knightriders. Even though Salman couldn't attend yesterdays match, he has assured Preity that he will make it for the next round.

At the moment Salman is busy campaigning for various political parties. The actor plans to take a break from his hectic schedule and rush to South Africa to cheer for Preity's team. Interestingly Salman is the only actor who is planning to cheer for another actors team this IPL season. Last year Akshay Kumar had cheered for the Delhi Daredevils however he hadn't done it for free. "Akshay was paid a bomb for the cheerleading.

However Salman is doing it for free because Preity has asked him a favour."

Insiders add that Salman has been telling close friends how Shah Rukh is busy minting money at the money while he's rallying around asking people to vote. "Salman campaigning for Preity will be a direct challenge to Shah Rukh. It will be interesting to see him on the same stadium where SRK's team is playing."

Salman has promised Preity that he will help her team but has yet committ the dates he will travel to SA.

In Bollywood, the younger the better

The writing is on the wall; the shelf life of the Bollywood heroine just got shorter. After a 15-year-stint at the box office, Manisha Koirala/Tabu/Kajol keep waiting for that one meaningful role to don pancake.

And, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sushmita Sen who made their debuts in the 90s are also fast being relegated to the background. Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt says, “Even in Hollywood a Julia Roberts is feeling the tremors of the end. Whether you’re a street walker, an actor or in any other glamorous profession, there is a premium on youth. One can’t flinch away from the fact that an actor has a limited shelf life; and in this consumerist age where society is youth-obsessed, there is no place for people beyond a particular age. Even a child in an average school wants his mother to look like the young, television mother in a soap opera or a television commercial. Age controls the days and the nights of the entertainment world.’’

Facts that corroborate the theory that in showbiz, the younger the better, come from recent study that show that Aishwarya lost three endorsements — for a jewellery line, a soap and a doll to Katrina Kaif; Kareena is the reigning Bollywood queen; Priyanka is the preferred actress when the role needs “histrionics’’; Deepika looks good with Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan. Akshay Kumar wants to team up with Jiah Khan; Shahid Kapoor wishes to serenade Genelia D’Souza; Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan prefer Asin over Amisha Patel; and, Abhishek Bachchan wants to share screen space with Sonam.

So in this fast changing scenario, where do the 90s’ beauties like Rani/Preity/Shilpa Shetty/Amisha fit in?
Trade writer Vinod Mirani says, “They’re considered for the occasional meaty role, but with the production numbers having gone down, the roles have dried up for the older lot. The heroes well into their 40s invariably ask their producers to get them younger heroines.’’ A filmmaker adds, “In Bollywood, the heroines are absolutely inter-changeable; switching Deepika with Katrina makes no difference to a project.’’So 43-year-old Salman will team up with 20-something Sonakshi Sinha (daughter of Shatrughan Sinha); Akshay Kumar (41) wants Jiah (21) in his film Housefull; and Aamir Khan (44) is definitely gung-ho about romancing Asin (25). Even Shah Rukh (43) made the perfect pair with Anushka (22). Of course, in the next round, the bar will be pushed down further, and the reigning Bollywood stars will definitely make a play for the new teenager on the block. When Amitabh Bachchan romanced Shilpa Shetty in Lal Badshah, one of his older leading ladies had joked, “Amitji is learning to change nappies; next he will be romancing Baby Guddu on screen.’’
